Columbia Machine Works Ltd. was founded in 1917 by the Miles family and located on West 4th
Ave. in Vancouver. It stayed in the hands of the Miles family until 1963 when it was purchased by Rob Gibb. In
1966 Al Brew started with the company and in 1969 the company moved to new premises at 1233 Vickers Way in Richmond.
In 1970 Al Brew became manager of Columbia Machine Works.
In 1972 the company was purchased by Cliff and Al Brew. In 1974 the company was operating
out of 3 shops, 1233 Vickers Way, 1247 Vickers Way and 1118 River Road. In August 1975 all operations moved to
the new premises at 11091 Bridgeport Road in Richmond.
In the period from 1972 to 1981 the number of employees increased from 9 to 26. Sales increased
approximately tenfold from 1973 to 1980.
In 1986 more property was acquired at 7960 River Road (Pan Pacific Manufacturing) in Richmond.
The total employees for both companies grew to about 35. Total sales for 1990 doubled from what it was in 1980
for both operations.
At present we are located at 8268 River Way in Delta. We moved into the new premises in December
of 2003. We have more then 30,000 square feet of manufacturing space. We have a fabricating shop with three overhead
cranes to fabricate large or small projects. We have a machine shop capable of machining to the close tolerances
required by the industry. Our office staff is capable of handling all of our customers requirements from information
to large sales.
